About the Bartholows Road Field Complex:

Despite chronic field shortages for practices, games and tournaments, Frederick County, Maryland has a thriving youth sports community that powers its rich sports history . This longstanding, acute need for fields was the driving force behind FC Frederick’s journey to acquire land and build a multi-field soccer complex.

Since the early 2000s, FC Frederick has investigated and/or pursued more than 40 field-related projects in Frederick County. On August 22, 2017, the stars finally aligned when the Club submitted the winning bid at an absolute auction of 152 acres of farmland located at 4502 Bartholows Road in the Monrovia area of Frederick County. FC Frederick closed on the purchase on October 6, 2017, becoming land owners for the first time in its history. Following a year of design and planning, the Club received conditional approval for its Site Plan from the Frederick County Planning Commission on December 12, 2018, and, after some additional design work, received final approval on May 14, 2019. The Club received its Grading Permit on August 15, 2019, and began construction in early September of 2019.

Despite challenges associated with the coronavirus pandemic and related quarantine orders throughout 2020 and 2021, Phase One of the project is estimated to be completed in the Fall of 2025. This phase will include four professional-quality grass fields, a pavilion, bathroom facility, and parking. Additional phases will see more fields, bathroom facilities, pavilions, open space, and walking trails.

With easy access from both I-70 (New Market and Mt. Airy exits), and I-270 (Urbana, Hyattstown, and Clarksburg exits) the complex is expected to fill several unmet needs in Frederick County, including: providing youth soccer players with opportunities to experience the thrill of playing on professionally maintained grass fields; expanding access to soccer programming to better reach and serve local youth; creating a hub for community events that utilize the pavilions, expansive open space, and walking trails. Local establishments in New Market, Mt. Airy, and Urbana will likely see increased business from families who come to enjoy the complex’s amenities.

To support the continued development of the facility, FC Frederick will organize and promote a variety of fundraising activities each year, including direct Donations, Sponsorships , the Winter Gala, Golf Tournaments, and the Bull & Oyster Roast.
